Donna, did you use the process listed in Learn how to download your Adobe Creative Cloud apps to download and install Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator CC?
To check the computer for viruses or malware you will want to use your installed security software. If you do not already have an anti-virus software title installed then I would recommend checking with your ISP before purchasing any software. Many ISPs will bundle anti-virus and anti-malware software as part of their Internet service off

Donna Bell to install Creative Suite 3 you will need to go to Download Adobe Creative Suite 3 products and enter your serial number for CS3 Design Premium. You will then be taken to a page where you can download a non-activating version of Creative Suite 3. Please make sure to use the new serial number from the page when installing the software.

That program is REALLY old and is no longer supported
CS3 and Acrobat 8 activation server is retired see reply #1 https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2372929
-you MUST use the special serial number AND the special installer you download, not your originals
-above includes a link to get the special version AND links to help with activation problems
-more information on activation problems with the new version https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2385900
Even with the special serial number and installer, you may not be able to use on a new Mac
CS6 and earlier programs have not been tested and will not be updated for Mac El Capitan or later operating systems
-which means that you try to use CS6 and earlier at YOUR risk of having problems due to Apple updates
-Apple did not maintain backward compatibility with old programs in El Capitan or Sierra
--Adobe has a workaround to Apple's problem of not maintaining backward compatibility
--READ HERE https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2301916 for an Adobe solution to installing old programs, including a link to installing the old Java runtime that is required

Does adobe have scams in their web site and are they cheating people out of applications they bought and making everyone have to pay monthly renting charges for all their Applications? This is just not NICE !

Sounds as if you did download a scam or a virus. But not from Adobe. You must only use the official download. DON'T USE WEB SEARCH TO FIND CS3!!! This is very bad. May be best to wipe your iMac. If you buy a new Mac you can expect to buy all new apps. Maybe you could move some apps to the new Mac to give enough room to keep running your ancient CS3 on the new Mac.

Donna, I am sorry, but I would concur with Test Screen Name. The only link you should use to download Creative Suite 3 is the one provided in message #2 of this public discussion. The experience you described in post #11 sounds very suspicious. I would recommend you either run anti-virus and malware software or format the new Mac.
As John and Test Screen Name have both indicated, you will face difficulties using Creative Suite 3 on modern versions of Mac OS. You should be able to complete the download and installation process though by using the link offered in message #2 of this public forum discussion. To view the discussion click on the link to View the full discussion within your e-mail notification.
Finally, Donna, if you do end up formatting the Mac, to get rid of the virus or malware currently installed, then please make sure to only transfer any documents and settings from the old Mac. By moving over only the documents and settings you will be in a good position to install Creative Suite 3 after the migration/transfer process is complete. You can then reinstall any needed applications on the new computer.

Finally, if you want to wipe the Mac, and verify that no viruses or malware is installed, then Apple has a support document at How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support which discusses the process.
