Install keeps failing - worked before...

Explorer ,
May 11, 2018 May 11, 2018

I purchased this Photoshop Elements a few months ago and it worked fine until recently. Today I opened it again after some time and it was malfunctioning: not showing layers and telling me that something was damaged and to reinstall.

I did. First erased the software from my Mac, then re-downloaded and tried to install, but the installer app says "failed to initialize".

Can you give me a new version or let me know what's going on? I run MacOS Sierra 10.12.5 - and until recently never had any problems.

Thanks!

UPDATE! - since uninstall didn't work, I went straight into LIBRARY and deleted all folders named Photoshop Elements and Illustrator (in Applcations, Applications Support etc). Then emptied the trash and restarted the computer. Then tried to install again - and this time ti worked without problems.

Problem solved!

Hi Gg15365297,

As you have mentioned you are unable to reinstall Photoshop Elements on your Mac OS 10.12.5 because it fails with an error message "Installer Failed to initialize".

Can you please try downloading a fresh setup from here: Download Photoshop Elements | 2018, 15, and 14 , and install it.

If it still fails then try the work around given in the following link to install the product: Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra)

Let us know if this helps.

still not working. same response to all you advised above: "install failed" - also, the alternate option you sent uses an "exec" file when going to MAC OS => install. EXEC doesn't work on Mac, never has.

Thanks for the update, you should ind both Mac (.dmg) and Windows (.exe) setup files available on this page: Download Photoshop Elements | 2018, 15, and 14.

Did you try the workaround given here: Installing Creative Suite on macOS 10.12 (Sierra) ? Are you able to perform all the steps as listed?

Let us know.

Yes I DID - like I said above:

"the alternate option you sent uses an "exec" file when going to MAC OS => install. EXEC doesn't work on Mac, never has."

it's the same result either way. Something is blocking the install

thanks!

Gg15365297, sorry you are facing errors initializing the Photoshop Elements installer on macOS 10.12.5.  What version of Photoshop Elements are you attempting to install?

To resolve the current error you are facing it is often necessary to remove all installed Adobe software on the computer, Gg15365297.  Before we take that step can you please check the installation logs for any relevant errors that may be preventing the installer from completing the initialization process.  Information on how to locate the installation logs can be found at Troubleshoot install using logs in Photoshop Elements .

Also followed the log instructions, but this no log "installer" in the library/logs/adobe -nothing named installer

Ok, thanks for the clarification, Gg15365297.

As a next step, all Adobe software will need to be removed from the computer.  This should put the computer in a state that will allow the installer to complete the initialization process.

Please complete the following steps to remove the installed Adobe software:

  1. Run all available uninstallers in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers
  2. Download and run the CC Cleaner Tool - Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Once all uninstallers and the CC Cleaner tool have been run you should then be able to begin the install process for Photoshop Elements 2018, Gg15365297.

they couldn't be run, because the applications manager couldn't be found. So I followed the prompts and tried to install Creative Cloud desktop and go this error message:

creative cloud desktop failed to install (error code 1)

still run the cleaner?

Adobe Application Manager is needed to resolve this problem, however it is missing or damaged. Download a new copy of Adobe Application Manager from Adobe.com, or install this product again.

The above is what I'm getting when I double click the 2018 uninstaller)

after downloading the app manager, that install also failed.

Cleaner cleaned but didn't really change anything.

I can't uninstall and I can't install - it's crazy

Gg15365297, what else happened to this computer?  Did you use any utilities that may have removed files from the computer?

I would recommend you back up any critical files and contact our support team at Contact Customer Care to see if any additional steps can be taken to allow Adobe applications to be installed on the computer.

Ok, thanks for the update, Gg15365297.  Those steps are a lot more intrusive than we will typically undertake but I am happy to hear that it resolved the error for you.

In the future, please utilize the uninstallers in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers to remove any installed Adobe software titles.  This should help prevent the software from going into an unexpected state such as the errors you just resolved.

THE UNINSTALLERS DID NOT FUNCTION - NOTHING FUNCTIONED!!!! - have you forgotten??

You didn't know what else to do and send me to phone support which would have wasted more hours of my time, instead of giving me this simple step that resolved it in just a minute.
