Parental feedback on buying Creative Cloud for Students and Teachers

Hi Adobe

I'm a parent looking at Creative Cloud for one of our kids who is a 15-year secondary school student in the UK. Great, I'll get the Student & Teacher edition...not so fast 🙂

I spoke with one of your online support chat reps and am told to enter my child's name with the credit card. The billing emails will go to my child's school email account and not to the bill payer. I don't have any other subscriptions that I pay for and don't receive the bills directly.

Also, when registering the child's school email account and specifying a graduation date is a bit woolly. Here in the UK kids can opt to change schools for 2 years when they are 16 for VI-th form. Some kids do, some kids stay at the school until they are 18. We don't know what ours will do. If they were to leave at 16, we might never see the billing emails if we use a 4-year subscription date. Similarly, if we use a 2-year graduation date, but they actually stay for 4 years, would they be able to extend at the same school?

Is anybody at Adobe a parent? This all seems very basic and likely common to anyone who is a parent.

Yours very disappointed

I think Adobe treats all students as if they were at the college/university level.

The post concerns a child who is 15. Here is what the FAQ says:

To qualify for a student discount, you must be at least 13 years of age and enrolled in one of the following:

  • University or college — accredited public or private university or college (including community, junior, or vocational college) that grants degrees requiring not less than the equivalent of two years of full-time study*
  • Primary or secondary school — accredited public or private primary or secondary school providing full-time instruction*
  • Home school — defined by state home schooling regulations

As a parent, I feel this has the same risk as those folk who let their kids play mobile games with in-game purchase. Maybe even worse, since when the student graduates, Adobe will up the fee and not notify the payer. The parent probably doesn't even have access to the account to login to Adobe and cancel the payment. Plenty of scope for overcharging errors when none need be required.

As-is I can't recommend Adobe products for students without their own card.

I haven't looked into how well it works, but the possibility does exist to buy a 1 year voucher to be credited to the account.
