Photoshop CC stuck at "Waiting…" on Mac unless using default user account

Hello,

I consistently have this problem installing Photoshop CC 2014 and any of its updates from the Creative Cloud: the file downloads normally, then gets stuck in "Waiting…" indefinitely. Restarting the computer, restarting the Creative Cloud app, etc have no effect – always the same result. With some effort I managed to solve this issue by logging using the first-created user account (uid 501) on my Mac. This account can complete the installation without a problem. However, since it is not the account I normally use, it is extremely inconvenient, and smells like a bug in the installation process.

This has happened to me consistently for as long as I've been a Creative Cloud member (a year now), but I haven't posted about it earlier since I thought it might be something to do with how my computer was set up. But I recently got a new Mac and the same problem appeared again even though the computer was just installed from scratch. Again: the first user account created on the Mac can install Photoshop CC without problems, but if a new local user account is created on the same computer (even if Creative Cloud has not been previously installed on a different account) that account is unable to install Photoshop CC.

Now, the installer does ask for an administrator password, but installation still fails even if I give the user id and password of the first account. Similarly if the second account has admin privileges and I give its password, installation still fails, i.e., the only way to install successfully is to log in as the first user account.

I've got kind of a same problem. Photoshop CC 2014 update stuck at Waiting.. forever.

just tried and here's the log:

404  means file not found. By the name of Kimmo, we're probably trying  this from Finland, if that gives any clue.

nevermind, the old-fashion way worked. Open PS CC 2014, help-> check for updates, and done.

On this new Mac I'm using Yosemite (10.10), although the computer shipped with 10.9 installed. On my older Mac I've had this same problem with both 10.9 and 10.10. I've always used the Users & Groups preference pane to create all user accounts. In case it matters, the second user has its uid set to 1000 via advanced options in the preference pane (reason for this change is to match NFS shares from other computers, but the shares weren't mounted at the time I tried to install Photoshop with that account).

I don't remember if I installed other software with the second account prior to installing Photoshop. If I did, it was from the Mac App Store. (Currently there is other software installed on the computer.)

Kimmo Kulovesi if you create a new administrator account, without adjusting the UID, do you still face the same difficulties?

Hi, regarding the new administrator account, I'm hesitant to try it now since there is no Photoshop update for me to install and I have it working for now by installing with the first account. When Photoshop next updates, I will give it a try and report back, but I would be extremely disappointed in the quality of the code if the numerical value of the user id had an effect on whether installation works or not. (As for file permissions, I've used the find command in Terminal to ensure that no files were left over with the unadjusted user id.)

FYI, the same problem along with alternative solutions was presented by another user a year ago: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1228457?tstart=0

(You can see that I also participated in that thread back then.)

It's sad that there has been no improvement since.

Kimmo Kulovesi have the file permission errors under the account which is unable to apply updates been adjusted?  If not then it is likely the same behavior will continue to occur.

Why do you mean by “adjusted”? On my new Mac I basically did the following:

  • clean install of OS X & create default user account
  • install OS X updates
  • create second user account (with admin privileges)
  • sign in to second user account
  • install Creative Cloud (as second user)
  • attempt to install Photoshop (as second user)
  • give user id & password of second user when requested by Creative Cloud
  • get stuck at “waiting…”

i.e., both user accounts have admin privileges and only the second user account had ever touched Creative Cloud or Photoshop when the problem first occurred. Only after the Photoshop installation failed did I sign in as the first user to install Photoshop (without uninstalling anything). So now the situation is that Creative Cloud is installed as the second user, and Photoshop is installed as the first user.
