Changing the language of the Creative Cloud desktop app

Community Beginner ,
Mar 28, 2024 Mar 28, 2024

When downloading and starting the installer for the Creative Cloud desktop app, there should be a simple drop down menu to change the language of the install and the Creative Cloud app.

Reasons why:

- As a professional, i rarely (if ever) google anything in my native language. If i have a problem or need help with professional software, i google it in english. The communities, forums, subreddits, youtube channels etc. are usually communicating in english. That is why i need the creative cloud desktop app to be in english.

- The apps themselves can be installed in english. The creative cloud desktop app should not be an exception.

- Some users will set language options to different than OS default in order to learn languages. I like having any professional apps in english to more effectively communicate to english speaking colleagues. If i have to translate terms from my native language in the desktop app to english, i might mess it up.

- Helping other colleagues/students with their work is easier if the apps are consistently one language.

- In terms of design, it also feels more coherent to have all apps in the same ecosystem be the same language. Having creative cloud in my native language, but all the other apps in english is somewhat bizarre.

Reasons why not:

- I can´t find any.

Thank you.

Hi @AndrewTheGreat, sharing some more info in addition to what Karan shared. Our plan was to get it into the upcoming release. Hi @qerkristian, thanks for articulating your reasons why this is needed. I've heard from a couple other users on this forum asking for the same capabilitiy. We've added it to the roadmap - hoping to make it available later this year.

This is just one more lacking feature that baffles me. Switching the language should be a simple dropdown menu in any app. Instead we need to reinstall entire applications or change registry entries with text editiors.

I couldn't agree more. We really need this simple yet very important function!

We spent some more time digging into workflows that cause folks, such as yourself, to change the language of the Creative Cloud app and whether they use the other products in the same language or if there are multiple languages being used simultaenously (OS is in lang A, Creative Cloud app is in lang B, Premiere Pro is in lang C). The team has been making progress and we're looking at having this supported in our Q1 2025 release.

Here's a WILD idea: maybe give users the chance to change the language within each app whenever, no need for ecosystem integration. Just a preferences tab in the app where you can select whatever language you want.

If I sound somewhat upset it's because I've just spent the last 2 hours trying to get stuff working but nope, no chance.

I started off with CC desktop in Spanish (because I was never given an alternative, mind you), LR in Spanish (because I tried changing it back when I originally installed it, couldn't, and since I was in a hurry I just went with it), and PS in English (because by the time I installed it I had already changed the page settings and the installation language preference in CC). Today I decided I wanted to finally get LR in English, which is the language I use for pretty much everything for the reasons OP mentioned: solutions for issues are usually found in English, content creators for LR (and PS) are usually English speakers, plus *I just like it better*.

Round 1: uninstalled LR, made sure settings were ok for an English install, installed LR back... Spanish.

Round 2: uninstalled it again, waited a few minutes, restarted my laptop, opened the page, rechecked everything was ok, opened CC for the same, reinstalled LR. Spanish again.

Round 3: uninstalled LR again. Tried to uninstall CC, couldn't because for some reason Windows said it couldn't until it finished uninstalling or changing something else (aka: the CC uninstall was apparently somewhere there still running, since it was literally the only thing I'd done since rebooting the thing). Mind you, my laptop is perfectly fine and powerful enough to run any of this without any issues. The only programs that have EVER caused me issues of any kind have been Adobe programs.

Round 4 and 5: reboot, uninstall CC. Wait 10 minutes just in case. Reboot. Open page, check settings, CHANGE LOCATION just to be extra sure, reinstall CC. I'll let you take a wild guess as to what language it installed it in. Figured maybe if I change the settings in the page and back to English, then reset install preferences in CC to English and reboot it might change to English. Did all that, nope. Still Spanish.

Round 6: give up on changing CC to English since I rarely ever use it (another wild idea: GET RID OF CC APP INTEGRATION ALTOGETHER). Checked page settings, checked CC language install preferences, install LR.  S T I L L   S P A N I S H.

CAN YOU UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATION. THIS IS AS INCOMPREHENSIBLE AS IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. LET PEOPLE CHANGE THE LANGUAGE WITHIN THE APP AND IT'S FIXED, EASY AS THAT.

Thank you for your time.

Guess Adobe just doesn't have enough budget for minor problems like this. Maybe if they increase the subscription costs...

Hi everyone. Thanks for your patience. The next version of the Creative Cloud desktop app (releasing in a few weeks) will have the ability to change the language of the app from the "Preferences" menu.
