Pattern Rotation with Pattern Stamp Tool - Follow Direction

Community Beginner ,

I think it would be a very useful feature if Patterns could be set to follow the direction of the Pattern Stamp tool brush

Currently, even if the brush itself is set to rotate and follow the direction of the mouse/pen, the pattern doesn't. It keeps the same relative position to the canvas.

I would like to be able to set the pattern to follow the brush and curve/distort etc appropriately.

For example, if I was making a cobblestone road, and had a suitable pattern, I'd like the alignment of the bricks to be able to follow the alignment of a road I paint, like so...Untitled-3.jpg

The Warp tool can be used for similar, but I want to be able to draw complex shapes/lines and have the pattern follow along properly.

Thanks

I've wanted this for a long time, sort of like Illusrrator's Art Brushes, but for pixels. I don't know if it could be done in real time, but something like Filter > Render > Flames, but for Patterns seem logical.

One thing that should be considered is what happens going around a corner or sharp turn. I've run ito this trying to fake it with Polar Coordinates. The inside edge will get compressed, and the outer edge stretched, so the inside could turn into pebbles and the outside into boulders. It may be better to stroke a Path with some sort of Procedural render thing, placing the cobblestones as they fit. This would hold true for other patterns too, but some  would be easier to deal with than others.

I agree that this would be a useful addition and have upvoted the idea.

In the meantime, you might be able to make use of Pattern on a Path. Draw a path then use Edit > Fill > Pattern > Script > Place Along Path.  It is not perfect but may be useable.
