As a multilingual designer. I have to design menus and such in both English and Japanese.
Before the latest update,
If I wrote in Japanese BEFORE selecting a Japanese font, illustrator would automatically change to a Japanese font (any kind), so that you can obviously see what you are typing.
After the latest update
If I write in Japanese BEFORE selecting a Japanese font, illustrator does not automatically change to a Japanese font, but instead shows icons or symbols such as (?, #, !, etc.).
Does anyone know if there is something in the settings that can be changed?
I know the developers also changed without permission some user settings (such as my font previews when typing became turned off after the update), so I would aprecciate the devs NOT changing user preferences in future updates.

szymon,
With regard to the lack of changing to a Japanese font, I would suggest your sending a bug report/feature request here, for the Ai team to see:

With regard to your user settings "(such as my font previews when typing became turned off after the update)", I believe it may be a matter of saving/reusing your preferences.
Have you kept the previous version when updating?

Have you checked to see if the "Enable Missing Glyph Protection" checkbox in the Text section of Preferences has been unchecked?

Thank you very much! It fixed the issue.
Dear devs, stop messing with user preferences when you roll out an update.

There is a bug in ver. 29.7.1 that rewrites some preferences. It may had been affected by this.
