New Here ,

I'm now using Adobe Illustrator CC / Creating a CMYK file for print / selected a placed CMYK photo image and want to slightly adjust the colorization / selected the photo > Edit > Edit Colors > Adjust Color Balance ... however the Adjust Color Balance command (and all of the others) is grayed out. Why?

Probably the Image is Linked. To adjust the Color Balance, I believe the file needs to be Embedded.

Go to the Options menu of the Links panel (Window > Links) and choose Embed.

Now you should be able to adjust color under the Edit menu.

Thank you, Jeff ... that embed command solved this particular issue. However when this took place - I noticed that it "softened" the image a bit. So then I wanted to unsharp mask, but found out that Adobe took this away with 64bit processing. Hopefully it will come back with future updates.

Thanks again, Joe.
