Adobe Illustrator CC/Windows 10, unable to horizontally scroll

New Here ,
Mar 17, 2017 Mar 17, 2017

So I've just bought a shiny new laptop, pre-installed with Windows 10. I'm operating Adobe Illustrator CC and I cannot scroll horizontally.

Touchpad works fine in all other applications including Photoshop, but I can only vertically scroll in AI!

Am I missing something?! I have reset preferences, tried different files, and still have the same issue. Help?!

Have you checked Touchpad setup in Windows preferences?

Especially settings for touch gestures.

Thank you Monica. I have - and both vertical and horizontal scrolling is checked. Like I say, it is only within Illustrator that I cannot horizontally scroll - all other applications are unaffected.

Does horizontal scrolling work when you press Alt or Shift?

If that works then this might be either some other app interfering or some incompatibility.

You might also want to contact support. They can solve this kind of individual problems.

Ah! I think I have found a way to scroll horizontally. you have to use a different gesture completely to scroll. The gesture is the same as zooming in?! or, putting one finger on the track pad and moving the other sideways..

Sort of bizarre and only figured it out by mistake but at least I can now scroll. Although only up/down/left/right and not at all diagonally!

Same here, but especially because I work with different devices it is pretty annoying to switch between the different gestures because I tend to mix up them up, furthermore scrolling through "pinch to zoom" is not nearly as comfortable as the normal gesture for horizontal scrolling.

Hopefully there is some kind of solution for this, but thank you anyway for sharing your experience

What touchpad do you have on your laptop, and what driver is it? Mine is a synaptics clickpad v1.1 apparently. Perhaps an incompatibility issue?

It's the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad and the driver version is: v.19.0.12.107

Hey, everyone.

I'm having the same issue here. But I think it's not connected to the Synaptics touchpad driver at all because other software including Photoshop CC seem to support horizontal scrolling with that.

From what I was able to figure out, Illustrator CC in Windows 10 only makes the horizontal scrolling available if you're zoomed in in a specific artboard. If your zoomed out working on several artboards (like I usually am), the vertical scrolling works fine, but the horizontal one doesn't (not sure why). Not even the keyboard works to scroll horizontally in that scenario, so I don't think it's a touchpad/mouse issue.

What I'm doing while Adobe figures this out is laying out all my artboards on top of each other so it's easier to move through them. It sucks, but helped me a little bit.
