AI CC - "could not open the file" (pdf)

Very frustrated.

(Using a macbook pro)(

since updating to the latest AI on CC 2019, finding many previous cads (saved in .PDF) are not opening.

if i double click on the pdf, it opens perfectly in PREVIEW.

If i open in photoshop it flattens the file.

I desperately need to open my pdf in illustrator 😞

has anyone else got this problem?

any solutions / fixes?

Have you tried importing instead of opening in Illustrator?

As a work-around, have you tried to re-export to pdf out of Preview app. Does that work?
