AI Export JPG with wrong size (just little bit)

Community Beginner ,
Feb 05, 2018 Feb 05, 2018

Hello.

I am new to use AI CC and today I get a problem.

When I want export a actural size jpg , I find that the jpg is little bit different with the AI artboard size.

I set the artboard size as common A4 size, but the outcome jpg is 210.14 mm x 297.01 mm.

Could anyone help me about that?

Thank you so much!

Millimeters are different from pixels. You can have half a mm, but half a pixel does not exist.

Some rounding will occur when converting mm to px and changing the export resolution to something else than 72 ppi (or a multiple of that)

Make sure that the 0/0 ruler point is at the upper left corner and check the size in Illustrator in pixels.

Thanks for your answering first.

But I think that is not the problem.

I have never like this on before version (I used AI 9 to now, about 10 more years)

This is the first time the output JPG size is not the same as the artboard size....

As far as I can tell, it has always been like that, caused by rounding from mm to px.

It might be that you're using a different tool, or different version of a tool, which shows more decimal places. Compare with an old file to check this out.

My friend say he face that too.

But I really never happen.... and now I still cannot fix it

Before when I export some jpg to the output vendor, all of the jpg are in actual size.

But now, all of that have 0.xx mm deviation....

Do not expect to get perfect mm when saving a file in pixels.

1 mm + 2,835 px and 1 px = 0,353 mm, there will always be rounding errors.

So did you check a JPEG you made years ago, and what was the result today? Also, how exactly do you read the size? Different apps will give different answers!

so maybe is the display problem?

Because before I am a PC user and I join a new company in recent day.

This company use Mac. So I don't know is that PC and MAC display would be different.

But I believe that it is not only the display error.

Because when I import the jpg into the AI, I find that the jpg cannot fit size too.
(AI > use A4 artboard to export JPG > import JPG into AI again > draw a 210 x 297mm square to compare with the JPG)

For this step , I am pretty sure before when I use PC, the JPG would be 100% in 210 x 297. (Same size as the square I draw in AI)

I am really no idea whats going on now...
