I exported an AI file from Illustrator with PathNames

The AI contains a World Map with all countries paths named to its name.

When I export from Illustrator it works fine, but when want to import in 3DS Max or other softwares it shows Error as Improper File Format

Line exceeds 255 characters.

Obviously you cannot import the file into 3DSMax.

Illustrator can't solve the import function of another software.

You could try if saving as AI version 3 or 8 does work.

Apart from that: read the 3DS Max documentation. They should tell you which files they support.

I could have but the Illustrator version 3 and 8 do not support retaining the Path Names in its file. Which are important for the file import.

I am able to other files from the same version. But not this one, thats why I have posted this to Adobe. I had faced other problems with SVG file as well when the number of Layers or Paths increase in Illustrator, It starts lagging and not saving file correctly.

Your filename is too long, but this issue is really more of a 3DS import issue than an Illustrator issue. I found this on the Autodesk forum https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vault-forum/the-specified-path-filename-are-too-long/td-p/2747520

Myra Its not the file name.

The error says Line in File exceeds 255 Characters. But if I remove the Polynames from the File, It works OK.

Poly Names are required.

Thanks for the reply. It is Adobe forum, so I expected Adobe CCE to also monitor the same.

Anyways, I will log the same in the Bug section.

Just a typical 3DS Max problem I'm afraid. It'll work one year, but not the next. It'll work with CS3, then only with Version 8. Restored functionality is announced as a new feature, when in fact it's just a fix of an old problem. The fix'll break & then be forgotten about. Same happens with Sketchup files as well. You never know from year to year IF it'll still work or which version it'll work with. You can allegedly use AI files as vector maps in 3DS materails as well, which worked when the feature was introduced. For several years now, they won't render correctly if any part of the vector map remains outside of the render frame/buffer.
