Align Options Different in CC 2018???

So I've noticed in the new version of Illustrator CC 2018, each time I create a new shape or shape group, or duplicate a new shape or shape group, I have to set the alignment option for that specific shape or shape group each and everytime. It seems to be following an object level alignment style instead of the global level rules shapes in Illustrator used to follow. It's really annoying that everytime a new shape is created, if I want to align it to the artboard, I have to go down to the Properties Panel (another horrible idea) and change it from the default Align to Selection. It's very time consuming and unexpected when 30 seconds before I set another shape to align to artboard. Is this a "feature" or is it a very annoying bug???

I cannot replicate the alignment issue. Do you have the Illustrator 2018 update that was released in October 2017 installed? If not, try updating.

Illustrator is driving me nuts over this issue!!

How hard is it for Adobe developers to code into the program automatic align settings...? Meaning, if I only have a single object/group selected, it defaults to "Align to Artboard" options, and if I have multiple objects selected, it defaults to "Align to Selection"

Illustrator already defaults to "Align to Key Object" — this should be a no-brainer for Adobe
