Alt Shift to duplicate

Community Beginner ,
May 25, 2017 May 25, 2017

Hi,

I've recently updated my illustrator and I seem to be having some problems with the 'alt' to duplicate function. You used to be able to hit 'Alt' and 'Shift' at the same time to duplicate an object in a straight line, but for some reason this doesn't work any more. You can still hit 'alt' to copy, and still hit 'shift' to move in a straight line, but it won't allow you to do both. Does anyone know a solution to this? I did't realise how much I used this function until it was gone!

I'm working in Illustrator CC 2017.1.0

7.1K

I believe the problem is with the latest driver! I downloaded and installed it yesterday, lost my option-shift shortcut, reinstalled 6.3.20-8 (for Mac) and restored my shortcuts. I'm on Sierra 10.12.5.

hmm. seems fine on CC2017.1.0/Windows 7 here. can't think of a way to disable it specifically either.

Which system?

Do you have any keyboard/shortcuts enhancing software installed?

Running Chrome or Safari with plugins?

When did you last restart that machine?

I run both Chrome and Safari but I don't think I have any particular plugins that would mess with anything. The computer's been restarted 2-3 times and it hasn't seemed to change anything.

I'm running MacOS Sierra 10.12.5

I have personalised illustrator shortcuts, but I switched to default and tried again, and still no change...

Try and shut down everything but Illustrator.

Some apps "steal" shortcuts.

If that doesn't work, try and reset the preferences.

Hi Alison,

There's no change made with those shortcuts, double checked and confirmed. I agree with Monika, please check for any conflicting app or plugin running which could be causing this. Here's the link you can check for resetting the prefs: How to set preferences in Illustrator

Regards,

Om

You are not alone! I spended some time today just to find a similar question in internet. I'm having the same problem in other apps too. I tested in Sketch and Figma, they have the same shortcuts that aren't working too.

I'm using macOS Sierra 10.12.5, wich version are you using? And in the previous version of Illustrator the shortcuts where working fine?

My IT department has now managed to fix this. It turns out it's a fault with the wacom driver as it works with a mouse and not the wacom. He updated the driver and it works for me now!

I just checked and I'm running the latest driver, I'll try to reinstall it to see what happens.

Didn't solve my problem but I will keep trying other drives. Or contact Wacom support.

Rolling back to an older driver worked for me, too! I reinstalled to ver. 6.3.21-8 for Mac and option- and shift- work as intended again.
