bug non embedded images on illustrator V29.3.1

New Here ,

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with the latest version of illustrator (V29.3.1 on mac). When I open a client's .pdf file, it tells me that the images are not embedded and displays them pixelated.
However, if I open this same .pdf on my colleague's computer (also Mac, but who hasn't installed the latest version of illustrator) the image is displayed normally!

If anyone has found a solution...thank you.

Hey @gilles28208427qxhg

Hope you are doing well!

This seems like a compatibility issue with Illustrator v29.3.1. Try these fixes:

1) Check PDF import settings: Ensure "Import PDF Pages as Links" is unchecked.

2) Reinstall Illustrator: Downgrade to the previous version (same as your colleague's) to check if the issue persists.

3) Place Instead of Open: Use File > Place instead of opening the PDF directly.

4) Re-embed Images: If possible, ask the client for a version with embedded images.

Let me

Hi,

I tried your third solution and it works! If I import the pdf file and then embed it, it works!

Before, to open it, I did “right click, open with illustrator”.

It's weird, it works one way and not the other!

Thanks !

It looks like you are opening the Illustrator part of the file which looks for the missing images.

While your colleague may open the PDF part of the file, which always has the images embedded.

You can ask your client for the missing images and relink them or import the PDF in Photoshop and select images to extract them.
