Cache Directory

Explorer ,
Oct 27, 2023 Oct 27, 2023

Hi! I changed the name of my admin folder on my Mac and since that I'm getting a message from Illustrator telling me that it cannot save a backup copy of a document as it cannot find the cache directory so I would like to know which is the default directory for this when Illustrator is installed so as to choose it in the Preferences panel and fix this issue. Thank you in advance!

Hi @Belialchemist,

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're facing with Illustrator's cache directory. The default directory for the cache location can vary depending on your specific system configuration. To help you resolve this, I would recommend the following steps:

Hi @Belialchemist,

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're facing with Illustrator's cache directory. The default directory for the cache location can vary depending on your specific system configuration. To help you resolve this, I would recommend the following steps:

  1. Close Adobe Illustrator.
  2. Navigate to your Preferences folder on your Mac. This folder is usually located in the "Library" directory, which is hidden by default. You can access it by pressing Shift + Command + G and entering "~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator" (without the quotes).
  3. Look for a file named "Adobe Illustrator Prefs" or "Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings" (the version number may vary).
  4. Move this file to a different location (e.g., your desktop) to back it up.
  5. Restart Adobe Illustrator.

Upon restarting, Illustrator should recreate the preferences file with the default cache directory settings. If this doesn't resolve the issue, please let me know, and we can explore additional steps.

Best,
Anshul Saini

Thank you so much for your kind reply! Before reading your message I had reinstalled Illustrator and now it's OK but it's great for me to know where the preferences file is located! 👍🏻
