CAD/DWG to illustrator

I'm, trying to open a DWG file in Illustrator. It can open, but it is 'too' big to work with properly. I deleted al the layers that I don't need in CAD but it still won't work properly.

After it is loaded in, Illustrators screen says 'not responding' and when it is loaded in it is very laggy so you can't do anything.

CAD size is aprox. 76 Mb.

CPU, GPU and RAM aren't fully used by Illustrator.

Does anyone have som tips on how I can open the file and work in it?

Only open in  AutoCAD for editing. Just don't use Illustrator.

Illustrator is for color and extra detailing of the map, like trees.
