Can't Change Color of Graphic from Graphics Library

I added a graphic to the Graphics Library and dragged it out to use it. I can't change the color for it. It's a vector graphic, I should be able to change its color. Is this the expected behavior when you add graphics to the Graphics Library or am I missing something?

I looked at the support page and I found detail for my issue. Below is a paste from the section that would logically explain that but there isn't much detail about changing a graphic after you put it in the library and pull it out to use. It seems odd that I would lose that capability on the graphic after adding it to the library.

Use a graphic

Do one of the following:

• Right-click a graphic in the Libraries panel, and choose the Use In Document option.
• With an active Illustrator document open, from the Libraries panel, drag and drop an asset onto the artboard.

Edit a graphic

• Do one of the following in the Libraries panel:

  • Double-click a graphic
  • Right-click a graphic and choose Edit.
• Edit the component when it opens up in an Illustrator document window.
• Save the document.The graphic is updated in the Creative Cloud Library, and the thumbnail is automatically refreshed. Also, if the asset was created in Illustrator CC 2015 or later, it is a Linked Asset, and Adobe CreativeSync ensures that it is updated across all locations where it is used.

Hold down the Alt (option) key while dragging from the library.

Or Right click the item in the library and choose Place copy.

You probably placed a linked version
