Can't select text

Explorer ,
Jun 13, 2021 Jun 13, 2021

I can't select text. It was fine last night and this morning not.  When I hover the selection tool over the text it shows a small solid black box.  See pic.  When I click on the text the selection tool shows an open box with points along the perimeter and center.  See pic.

I'm not aware of changing any settings, but something seems to have changed.

Thank you

These cursor displays are correct, and the second one indicates that the type object is indeed selected. If there is no other visual clue to the selection, I would suggest the possibility that Bounding Box and Edges are hidden. Go to View menu > Show Bounding Box and > Show Edges. Or use the keyboard shortcuts shift + cmd/ctrl + B and cmd/ctrl + H.

Double clicking the text does not get you the text cursor?

Thanks.  It does but I was trying to select the block of text to move it.

Oddly, that worked.  But that is not how the selector tool was working yesterday.  I would click on the block of text and all I would see what a blue underline under the text once it was selected, then I could move it.  But this works fine.  Thank you.

If you were seeing the underline but not the bounding box then you had point type (as opposed to area type) with bounding box hidden. You may have accidentally activated Hide Edges (cmd/ctrl+ H), which would make selection invisible. You should, however, still be able to move the text.
