Can' upload a photo. Starts blinking, flashing

Somehow, once I upload a photo, it starts blinking, flashing and I can't do anything about it.

Any ideas how to fix it?

I think you are placing an image in an Illustrator document, not uploading it. What you describe sounds like it could be related to your graphics card. You could try turning off GPU processing. Here’s more info about GPU troubleshooting. Troubleshoot GPU performance in Illustrator
