Cannot precisely select text after 27.3.1 update

After updating to 27.3.1, selecting text with the text tool is wonky and very imprecise. It wants to select the text all around besides what I am selecting. I can eventually select just the words I want, but it takes awhile and is infuriating. I'm using a late 2015 iMac with MacOS Monterrey 12.6.3.

I have a similar system as you, also at 12.6.3 but can't reproduce this behaviour.

Are you talking about text inside a text frame, or individual type objects?

Hi,

I have reset my Illustrator preferences several times and tried to get
things to work, but I hav been unsuccessful. Since updating to the
latest Illustrator version, I have been unable to accurately and
consistently select text with the text tool. It selects text I don't
want selected and often doesn't select what I am trying to select. Very
frustrating. I am including a link to a file and a screen recording as
requested. I am using the latest Mac OS 12.6.3. I have a late 2015 27
inch iMac. Thank you!

It doesn't appear to be a Styles problem, but a text thread issue. My pages have columns of text threaded together. Whenever I am highlighting text within a text box with the text cursor and the cursor hovers over the space between the lines of text, the highlighted portion jumps to another place in the thread
