Colors change when copying to other file, or exporting as image

Hello all, ive been trying to figure this out for hours and couldnt find any solution.

I downloaded an ai. artwork file and wanted to crop that and use it on a second file im editing.

When I copy from the downloaded file to the second file, after I paste, the colors are totally different.

Even if I go to the artwork file and export as PNG or JPEG - when I try to paste that on the second file, colors are still changed.

Is there any solution to that?

please help 😞

thank you.

You may check if there is the same or a different document colour mode in both files.

Different colour profiles may also play a role.

Check 2 things are the same between both documents

file >> document color mode  >> RGB

Edit >> Assign Profile

If  this is vector paths and has global colors, they need to be defined the same in swatches for both documents.

I am having this same problem. I downloaded an eps vector from shutterstock and copied and pasted the image into another ai file. Both files are CMYK color mode but vector image's color changes appearance after being copied into another doc. What is going on here?

Most probably different color profiles used and color settings set up inappropriately.

ah yes, I see that the color profile in the original file is set to "Japan Color 2002 Newspaper". Thank you for your reply.

You're welcome.

You might need to try out what you now want to do. If colors get better when keeping the values or when doing the conversion. That depends on how you have set up color profiles in Illustrator. Japan Newspaper is a very different profile than the US or European offset ones.

I have the same problem already a few time with Illustrator on my iPad Pro. The documents settings are exactly the same (CMYK) and still it changes the colors, when I try to copy a logo which I made, from one document to the other. Does anyone know a solution here?  It's soooo annoying 😤

I think it would be better if you post this to the Illustrator on the iPad forum.

Please describe your exact steps in the new thread and post example screenshots.

I just had an issue where a copied pattern from one document (doc 1) would change color when pasted into a different document (doc 2). Both docs were using CMYK. The issue was that both documents had color swatches that were named exactly the same, but were different colors, i.e. doc 1 had a white swatch named "User Swatch 1" and doc 2 had a purple named "User Swatch 1". When I deleted the swatch from doc 2, the color no longer changed when I pasted the pattern into it.

Trying to replicate this with two new docs I found out that when you try and paste an object that uses a swatch that is named the same as one that's already in the document, it will ask you if you want to merge the swatches. I assume that whoever tried pasting the pattern in the first time just clicked merge, and since that pop up only happens once, every subsequent time I tried pasting it in, it just merged them without asking.
