Converting Illustrator effects to vector

Advocate ,
Sep 19, 2020 Sep 19, 2020

I have an illustration with Effects > Inner Glow applied. Is there a way to convert the Inner Glow shading to vector?

I know that if I do that it will no longer be editable as an effect, but I need everything in th illustration to be vector. Is that possible?

If it is not possible, what is the best way to add shading to a vector illustration while keeping the shading vector?

The only way I can think of is to use a blend using multiple objects.

Hi there.

Thanks for reaching out. It would be very helpful if you could share a few more details about your artwork and effects applied. You may try expanding the appearance (Object > Expand Appearance).

Thanks for your reply. This is an example -- a shape that has the Inner Glow effect applied. The effect gives the shape a softer, more dimensional look.

However, the effect is raster and I need to keep everything vector, and as far as I can tell, Expand Appearance does not change this effect to vector.

So I need to know a good way to give the appearance of shadinig and still keep everything vector.

Thanks, Larry. I tried blends but a blend doesn't work well on some of the shapes because of their complexity. Your answer was helpful because at least I won't waste more time trying.

Object > Expand Appearance on the selected object with the effect. You might need to Object > Ungroup the result.
