corrupted file in CS2

New Here ,

I can't find the answer to this in existing forums. When I open a particular file in CS2 I get the error message: "can't open the illustration. ID = -50" When I click OK in that dialog box the file does open but with several layers missing and some but not all objects drawn in the previous session are also missing. Oddly, these missing objects are not from the missing layers. Any hints or advice would be welcome.

Might be a corrupted file.

Try and open it in a newer version.

If that doesn't help: create a new file and try and place this one in it.

Thanks much! I don't have a newer version but your second suggestion worked, with a certain amount of complication. The objects that were missing reappeared when I opened a new empty file and embedded the corrupted file in it. The complication was in getting the single group teased apart so that I could copy only the missing objects to paste into an uncorrupted earlier version of my file.
