Create Embroidery effect with illustrator

Does anyone know how to make an embroidery patch like effect like in the picture? I know there are things for photoshop, but I only have illustrator. I'm looking to either purchase something or get a tutorial so I can make it myself.

You are either looking into a bit of manual work, using a mixture of patterns, effects, brushes, transparency that cannot be automated a lot or slapped onto any design.

Hmmm...thank you. Do you suppose other people are using a different program to make it then? It's a pretty popular design element at the moment.

THey are probably using Photoshop or even Substance Painter. Or maybe an embroidery software or maybe one of these: https://www.bulkmockup.com/embroidery-mockup-generator/
