Creating a favicon in Illustrator

New Here ,
Mar 28, 2016 Mar 28, 2016

Hello,

I've been trying to create a website favicon in Illustrator (for an intro web design class). I've been using a favicon generator online, but the logo always ends up really pixelated. I'm wondering if there is a way to save the file in the ico format within Illustrator. Or is there another file format that would also work?

Thank you!

Try exporting the logo as a PNG via Save-for Web.

Thanks for your response! I just tried that (I exported it as a PNG-24) and it's still showing as pretty pixelated. I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong settings.

What Raster Resolution is the original artwork set to?  Low, Medium, or High?  In Preferences, select Anti-Aliased Artwork ( If I remember correctly, it is found in the General settings ).  Show a screen shot of the artwork's pixelation.

Thank you so much for your help! I just realized it's actually something pretty silly. I'm using a Mac with retina display and I didn't have the image saved to right size for retina display. It looks like it should now. Thank you for helping me think through this The raster resolution was set to high by the way. What does selecting Anti-Aliased Artwork do?
