Cropping marquee placement issue/bug?

Does anyone have any issued cropping images with the latest version of AI?

In the past when I cropped an embedded image, AI would initially put a marquee box around the entire image and I could adjust it.  But with the most recent version when I crop an image AI puts a marquee box, at best what I can describe is randomly, placed on the image.  It's different with ever photo and every crop.  See attached.  For some reason, AI arbitrarily put in a square crop.  However the next image it may be 4:3 or 8x10... I have no control over it.

Any thoughts?  It's easy to work around but just odd and kind of annoying.

Thanks!
