I'm trying to figure out how to delete fonts from my Adobe illustrator app on my iPad but it seems impossible. Does anyone have a solution?

You can manage fonts for Illustrator via the Creative Cloud mobile app. Here's an article with instructions on working with fonts in the app: https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/using/activate-fonts-mobile.html

Hi. I'm trying to remove fonts that I have installed in Adobe Illustrator for iPad (I've installed a few).

but, when I go to the Creative Cloud app, it says that I don't have any fonts installed.

Why is that? And what do I do to delete the fonts I have installed onto my Illustrator app?

Did you install (or a more accurate term "sync") the fonts via the Adobe Fonts service? If so you can manage the fonts you have activiated via Adobe Fonts at the web site: https://fonts.adobe.com/ Just look for the "manage fonts" shortcut at the upper right corner of the site's main page.

I have a slightly old, large model iPad Pro. The fonts category in Settings shows it doesn't have any fonts installed. But the iPad OS does include a pretty good collection of system fonts. They're just hidden from the user to be able to copy or delete. You can add fonts to an iPad, but apparently the only method Apple allows is via apps through its app store. I really don't like that at all because it is very limiting. I'd prefer to be able to install some fonts via an attached external hard drive or flash memory stick. The iPad isn't my main design tool; I just need it for certain tasks that involve drawing things directly on a screen. I do most of my type-related design work on regular computers with full-featured physical keyboards.

So, you're basically saying that there's no way for me to delete a font on the Illustrator app once I install it, correct?

It depends on how you installed the font. If you activated the font via the Adobe Fonts service it's easy to go to that web site and manage the fonts you have activated in your Creative Cloud account. If the fonts are actually installed directly into the iPad OS (via some kind of app) you may be able to remove them in the Fonts category under Settings.

I installed them directly through the Illustrator app for iPad and when I go to Settings>Fonts, it says that no fonts are installed.

Ah, that explains it. When you add fonts within the iPad version of Adobe Illustrator those fonts are actually activated from the Adobe Fonts service. If you want to remove fonts that you have activated you have a couple ways to do so. There is a link at the bottom of the fonts menu in the iPad version of Adobe Illustrator to launch the mobile Creative Cloud app; you can add or remove fonts via that app. Another method is going to the Adobe Fonts website and managing your fonts from there.

Fonts that are added via the Adobe Fonts service will not show up as installed fonts within the iPad OS. They're only available to Adobe applications. That's a bit different from how the Adobe Fonts service works on regular computers running Windows or Mac OSX; all applications can "see" those fonts.

I went to the Adobe Creative Cloud website and when I looked under fonts, it said that I have no installed fonts.

Have you tried Settings -> General, then Fonts?

Yes. When you check under Settings, the General tab and then Fonts an iPad will show "no fonts installed" and suggest you go to the App Store to install fonts through there. I think that's pretty silly. Maybe Apple has iPads set up to only install fonts via apps over legal reasons.

I'm having the same issue. The font I uploaded is glitching, so I need to uninstall and reinstall it. But it seems impossible to uninstall it, since I installed it directly through the iPad on Illustrator. Kind of a silly loop I'm stuck in.

If your iPad is properly signed in to your Creative Cloud account you should be able to manage fonts synced via Adobe Fonts in the Creative Cloud iPad app. Open the CC app and click on the "fonts" item in the menu on the left. The same fonts can be managed on the desktop version of the CC app or by visiting the Adobe Fonts website: https://fonts.adobe.com/

I think the issue is as follows:

A person, in his/her ipad downloads the font file(s) via safari, uses Adobe Illustrator for iPad to locate the file within the ipad storage and install the file(s), and now something went wrong and would like to remove the font(s) from adobe illustrator for ipad.

The ipad's settings>general>fonts is empty.

Creative Cloud's fonts>Installed fonts does not contain the fonts in the adobe illustrator for ipad.

And this is the issue, how can someone remove fonts in this kind of situation from Illustrator for iPad?

If someone manually adds fonts to Adobe Illustrator that are stored on the iPad those font files are uploaded to the user's Creative Cloud library. They're not installed in the iPad OS. The uploaded fonts are available only to Adobe CC apps.

Fonts that have been uploaded to Creative Cloud can be removed via the Manage Fonts menu within the Creative Cloud app. If the font can't be removed from the mobile version of the app the removal should be able to work via the desktop version of the CC app. Obviously the iPad and desktop computer devices need to be signed in and synced properly for everything to work.

Update to my last post:

Thank you Bobby, but I don't think you understood the problem. This font did not uploaded to creative cloud, I know it should be there, but it is not. I can show you pictures. But I know what's going on:

So I tried replacing the font but I receive the message "This font has already been uploaded" so that did not work.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the app, but that did not work.

I tried looking into my ipad's Settings>General>Fonts and "No Fonts Installed".

I checked with other apps that uses different fonts like MS Word and Goodnotes, but that font did not appear in those apps.

Last thing I tried was creating a new file and opening a different file, and finally came to find out that the font was not in nither of those but only within the file that I was this issue with. SO this means if you installed that font inside that new/current file from a 3rd party site, then that font stays within that file independently, meaning it will not be in other files except that one you installed it in. This is a pain since it can cause many of us to have to restart our work. But creating a new file, or using a backup file previous to installing the font seems to be the work around solution.

Have you checked the desktop version of the Creative Cloud app on a desktop or notebook computer? IIRC the desktop app has more capabilities in its Manage Fonts menu than the iPad version. If the font was uploaded, but not visible I wonder if there was a technical issue with the font file. Adobe "validates" uploaded fonts, but if there was a validation issue I would guess the app would have said something during the uploading process.

When you mention "3rd party site" do you still mean uploading from within the iPad's local storage, a fonts app from the App store or somehow side-loaded from a web site? I'm not getting how an uploaded font would used from within just one file and not be available to other opened Illustrator documents.

BTW, I am not fond at all how the iPad OS installs and manages fonts. It's needlessly complicated. I'd prefer a setup more like a regular Windows or Mac computer. So I just roll with the fonts Apple bundled into the OS and the ones I've synced via Adobe Fonts. Most of the time I'm using a desktop PC or notebook. The iPad is handy for on-screen drawing/painting though.

Final update and SOLUTION:

After some research and trying some of the things I mentioned above, I was finally able to remove the unwanted installed fonts from the Illustrator ipad app. But the ONLY way I could finally delete the unwanted font was uing Adobe Creative Cloud for desktop.

  1. Open Adobe Creative Cloud for desktop.
  2. Find and click either the "F" on the top right of the window or on "Manage fonts" to the left under resource links.
  3. Then click on "Uploaded fonts" on the left side.
  4. Then click on the 3 dots under the font you're planning on removing.
  5. Finally click "Remove".

That's it. Hope this helps anyone! 🙂

The "Manage Fonts" menu in the Creative Cloud app was what I was getting at earlier.
