Hi everyone,
I purchased this image on shutterstock and can't remove the text from the bottom, i had assumed i could as it is filler text. I emailed them and they said yes it can be done in illustrator, but i have no idea how to do it.
I tried to just cover it up, but the background has a gradient on it, so it doesn't look great.
I would be grateful if anyone can help me.
thanks
Hi, In layers panel select the layer and check that which is text layer after selecting the layer press the delete button or drag it down to the Deletion bucket.

Can you select the text? Can you see it in outline mode (Ctrl/Command + Y)? If you flip open everything in the layers panel, what can you see there?

Use the Direct Select tool, which is the white arrow at the top right of the toolbar. Click on the text with the Direct Select tool to select it. Then hit your backspace or delete key to delete it.

I am hoping to get some additional info here as I'm also new to Illustrator and i have similar issue only thing is it's a gradient background so I cannot simply place a box over it. I was told I could use Illustrator instead of Photoshop here. Also, I purchased the image through Shutterstock but no layers appear in Illustrator. What can I do?

Neither png nor jpg are vector files.
Is vector a separate option? If so what format is it?

It shows here vector as option but downloads as png

Essentially I want to take this original image downloaded and paid for from Shutterstock and remove text "HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR"

If the site says you are getting a vector file, but delivers a PNG, then you should file a complaint to shutterstock. PNG is not a vector format, it's a flattened raster.

That's what I thought...it's ridiculous. I purchased the image and software only to find out it's not possible as it was expressed to me. I actually reached out to Shutterstock online chat before purchasing the image and they said yep...you will be able to do that. I will file the complaint but let's say I have a vector file, then what steps should I take to remove text from an image with a gradient background? Just so I'm clear (using Illustrator) - is it deleting the layer or is there another option outside of covering it up.

If you are given a true vector file, it will be easy to delete the unwanted elements in Illustrator.
If you get the correct file and and still having trouble, come back and show some screen shots of the layers panel (expanded)
