Hi all,
First things first, I'm completely new to Illustrator, so I apologize in advance if what I'm asking is something very obvious. Ok, so I'm trying to use the program to import some 3D files, so that then I can rotate them and export different pictures in different angles. The files I'm using come from Sketchfab, and they're available for download in different formats (.fbx, .usdz, .gltf, .glb). One example would be this: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/old-rusty-car-2-544aa41de67b48cf89f8fcc2bb06e8f4. I'm not sure why I'm not able to open these files on Illustrator. I thought all of these formats were compatible with the program. What am I doing wrong? Please help a newbie 🙂
Thanks so much!
Illustrator is not a 3D application, although it can create some 3D objects from vector content and export as a 3D file.
But it cannot import 3D files.

Hi @thatmonkeygirl,
Thank you for reaching out. As Ton correctly mentioned, Illustrator can export some 3D formats such as OBJ, USDA, USDZ, and GLTF, but it cannot open these file formats.
Here is the complete list of supported file formats.
Regards,
Srishti

Thank you! Is there any other adobe product that would work for this?

Since it sounds like you're compositing the 3D models onto photographs you could try using Photoshop. That application can import (not open) 3D models and do some basic things to incorporate them into images.
