Document Setup unavailable in Actions

I often work with white graphics, so I frequently change the color of my artboard with "simulate colored paper" in the Document Setup section of the File Menu. Today, I had the great idea of recording an action to record the 9 click process:

  1. click File (menu)
  2. click Document Setup
  3.  click top color swatch of transparency grid
  4. click color swatch from saved colors at the bottom of the color palette (or choose a new color)
  5. click to close color palette
  6. click "Simulate Colored Paper" checkbox
  7. click "OK" button
  8. click Artboards Tool (Shift + O) to activate color
  9. click Selection tool (V) or whatever tool you need to continue your work

So, I pulled up my action panel, recorded the action and nuthin'! I tried again, and same thing, nothing was recorded. Why are the Document Setup actions unavailable in the Actions module?

Additionally, if anyone has a way to default my New File to have a colored background, I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you!

Funny you should mention that, I did that a few hours ago, prior to seeing your suggestion. I just saved an 18"x18" template to my cloud docs.  Easily accessible and editable. Thanks for your suggestion though!

Many frustrating things don't record to actions.

But you can create a document profile with Simulate Coloured Paper enabled. Save it to:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings\en_GB\x64\New Document Profiles

and then use it from File > New each time you need that setup.
