Seem like a few on here have had this issue since the update for 2021, lets find a solution for this.
As title describes, functions that used to have a shortcut by double-clicking do not work. When double clicking any object, it does not isolate. Nor does double clicking on text with the selection tool enter text editing mode. All functions that use double clicking are no longer operable.
Every program in the Adobe suite does this after the 2021 update. Double click works in every other program in Windows, so it's not a mouse setting.
Thanks for any help
Utilities in (like Magnet as Monika mentioned) can interfere with Illustrator's behaviour. Check what else is running when you run Illustrator.
Disabling Magnet fixed the issue.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your experience. There has been no change in the mouse behavior within the app. I tried to replicate it but couldn't. You may try following suggestions on this community post(https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/resolve-slow-performance-and-unexpected-behaviors-in-illu...) & let us know if they help.
Regards,
Ashutosh

I'm experiencing the same issues. When I creat a text box title, I try to edit the text by double clicking and it will not allow me to select inside, making editing of the text impossible. This problem has only recently occurred and I believe as a result of recent updates.

A very specific issue isn't best resolved with an article titled "Improve Illustrator Performance" unless you include a specific bookmark in that link.

I'm experiencing the same issue. Double click is gone since I updated my OS to Ventura. I updated my OS and my Adobe software at the same time, but I think its the OS that turned it off. This is infuriating. Maybe the worst ever. How are we suposed to work like this?

If it's not the Preference setting in Illustrator that has been turned off, then maybe check Mac OS Accessibility settings if there is something suspicious.

Hi @MegCampbell,
Thanks for reaching out. This also happened to me, and I had to change macOS System Settings, as Monika suggested, to fix the issue.
In System settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control > increase Double Click Speed.
Here are my settings:
Also, if you use any third-party mouse (Logitech, razor, etc.) or Apple Magic Mouse/ Trackpad, ensure you check & set the same setting there as well.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Anshul Saini

Illustrator 2024 Happening on all files. Don't know of other programs that
have the double click to isolate and work on components that are in a
group. (and no, it isn't locked).

Do you have any special mouse driver?
Did you set up anything in your system that interferes with double clicking? Could be accessiblity related or manipulating the double click speed.
Did you already reboot the system? Then launch only Illustrator, not even your browser

I have tried all method mentioned above and it still doesn't work. Hopefully this can be solved sooner or later :). It is such a powerful tool while problems like this can be very fraustrated for people who are dependent on Illustrator. Thanks!

Which system is it?
Could there be any accessibility option turned on inside your system that interferes with Mouse clicks?

I am facing the same issue: double click to isolate doesn't work anymore. I am using Illustrator v29.1 on macOS 15.1.1 (latest versions).
I thought that this issue might occur because of the newest Illustrator version. So I downgraded to 29.0.1. This didn't fix the issue.
I also tried to reset prefecrences in Illustrator. Didn't fix the problem.
I restarted my mac as well as Illustrator. Didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to use another trackpad (my old one). Didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to use a mouse (instead of trackpad). Didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to increase and decrease double click speed (as mentioned on top). None of it fixed the problem.
I checked browser tools as well as double clicks on my desktop (which work perfectly) to make sure, that I don't have a systemwide issue with dblclicks.
Any other ideas?

Thanks for the tip. I rebooted in safe mode. After opening Illustrator it worked. How can I find out what's the issue without safe mode?
