In that case please re-save them using Photoshop.
WhatsApp might just have changed their file format or compression or whatnot.

This is a public forum with 95% of people answering are not staff. Staff in here is marked as staff. If you want to bring something to the attention of the engineers, you might want to post it to https://illustrator.uservoice.com
And probably you also want to bring it to the attention of WhatsApp, because it obviously worked before they changed something, no?

Yes, i agree. Adobe need to fix this issue. As a graphic designer who receive a lot of ideas from client via whatsapp, its really annoying to re open it on psd and save it.

Hello @sinlokemp,
I am sorry to hear about this experience. I have logged a bug with the Product Team for further investigation. In the meantime, would you mind changing the file extension for the JPEG file to PNG (macOS, Windows) and then opening it in Illustrator to check if it helps?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Open it with Paint and save it. No need to change the name or format. After that the problem will be solved. The second method is to copy and paste the image directly into Illustrator without downloading it from Whatsapp.

Copying and pasting is not recommended at all. It has the potential to change the color profile in the AI file. You do not want that to happen.
Also I would not use Paint, but an app that supports color management properly.
