duplicates numbers for artboards

It's an ongoing bug that appears randomly and thus it's difficult to even reproduce let alone solve

Probably you have more insights than the engineers then maybe you can explain what exactly they need to fix?

It happens randomly in probably 50% of the AI projects I make with over 10 artboards

In order to fix something you have to firstz be able to produce it reliable not only 50% of the time, but 100% of the time. And then you can perhaps figure out what causes it. And then fix it.

SO probably it's not as ridiculous as you think?

The team put out a tentative fix in 29.6:

Artboards with the same number / missing number – Adobe Illustrator

Update your software and comment there if you encounter this error again.

Hi guys, unfortunately, still happening. I've upgraded to version 29.6.1 – and this time, instead of the issue happening on a project with lots of artboards, I've got the issue with a project with only 8 artboards! In this case, the artboard number 8 is missing, and it skips to 9. This really needs to be fixed – makes it difficult to do artboard exports for assets etc. It always happens randomly when adding/removing/moving artboards.

The hack of closing the file, quiting Illustrator, then reopening Illustrator and the file, does fix it – which is good at least.
