Question

DXF Files, Garment Pattern, Placement

Why I didn't solve this myself: Hi, I have already had a trial of Illustrator so can't test for this new possible use:

What I need to work with: I have DXF files created in a [fashion] garment pattern program.

What I need to do with the DXF files: The only thing I need to do is be able to PLACE my design (typically JPEG files) on the garment pattern in a certain place and ((how to do this?-->)) mirror it on another piece of the garment pattern. || Deeper dive:: The garment pattern pieces are laid out like puzzle pieces on a rectangle, where the rectangle is the amount of fabric needed to fabricate that particular garment||

****I don't want to buy AI if I can't do this. This is the only reason I'd be buying it. If AI can't do this I need to find a program that does.

!!THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!

You will need to test for yourself if Illustrator can handle your files and your workflow. You can get a month by month plan that you can cancel monthly.

Generally: Yes, Illustrator can place/open DXF files (up to a certain version). If you want more, there is a plugin available EXDXFPro

Yes, Illustrator can place JPEG files and mirror them (you want to search the documentation for how to mirror object).

No, Illustrator can't do automatic nesting (if that is what you need to do to layout your objects on the garment)
