Hi, since few days ago, illustrator automatically embed into the file any image i try to import as a link into the artwork.
That's happen with new files, and with the old ones when i need to update links.
I can't find a solution.
How can i fix that annoying issue?
I don't see File > Import on my Illustrator CC (I'm using CC 2017), but if you mean File > Place, then it sounds like your options have been changed. You're using a Mac - my experience has been that if you change your place options in InDesign or Illustrator, the new options become the default from then on, which would lead to what you describe, even going back to old files.
Try place/import again, but this time click the "Options" button when you've selected the file, and check that the "Link" o

Hi.
i have Mac Os Sierra with Illustrator CC.
I've tried to import (file > import or drag and drop on the artwork) with any type of images, jpg, pdf, tif, psd ... and always illustrator automatically embed the image into the file, same issue for a new document or an old one (before issue).
Old documents (before issue) still shows images as links but when i update a link o import a new image both are automatically embed.
To Larry G. Schneider: i've tried but in that dialog "include Linked files" is not active (image).

So immediately after importing the images the files are embedded?
Can you please describe step by step what is happening?

You haven't by any chance checked the box in the second save dialog that says Include Linked Files, have you? Don't do that.
