Error: "Can't save the illustration. Can't print the illustration. There's a bad font used in the document."

When I attempt to save and eps file in Illustrator CC, it loads the save as dialogue, but afterwards the saving status bar freezes and an error message appears with the headline:

"Can't save the illustration. Can't print the illustration. There's a bad font used in the document."

Of course I could outline the fonts, but I'm just saving progress and require live for future iterations.  It doesn't even tell me which font is causing the error.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Mike

December 2021 - I'm responding to this because I just experienced the issue in Illustrator 26.0 and thought that anyone that might be searching for this solution (like me) could benefit from what I learned. I found a solution that is simpler than restarting the machine. I saved my graphic by changing the text to another font. I exited out of Illustrator and Creative Cloud. Then, I restarted Creative Cloud and restarted Illustrator. When I opened my file, I was able to switch back to the original font and save the file with no issues. It saved me a lot of headaches by avoiding a computer restart.

This worked for me, too!

Is it possible to change all of your fonts temporarily to other fonts using the Find Font option under the Type menu? Then you can put each font back into the job one at a time and try saving. When you add the font that prevent the file from being saved—you've found it! Hopefully, then you can replace it and the problem will be solved.

Thanks for your advice ,Bill.  I ended up copying and pasting the text into a new document and then tried saving it multiple times with various fonts removed.  Puzzlingly, it was more than one font but they are both in the same family.  Museo Sans and Museo Slab both failed to save.  I am using both trough typekit.  I'll refresh those fonts and see if anything changed.

Oh, and another odd thing: it would save the font's if I saved them as PDF's instead of as a EPS.  Very peculiar.

So, the only solution I could find is to unsync both of the font families from Typekit and then restart my computer.  After I restarted the machine, I re-synced the fonts.  Afterwards, everything saved fine!
