the preference file is corrupted and has been reset to default setting. The corrupt file will be backed up as adobe illustrator prefs.err

Sorry about the trouble. In addition to the question asked by @Doug A Roberts, I would request you to share a few more details like:

  • OS and version of Illustrator
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates, or web extensions installed recently.
  • Did you try re-installing the app? If not, try the CC Cleaner tool to uninstall the app and reinstall it from the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

I have trhe same issue.

It happened once 2 weeks ago, and today it happened againCapture.JPG

Windows, Ill 26.1

No changes to my system that I know of.

I have not tried re-installing the app

Same file by any chance?

I hate to say this, but two weeks between corruptions isn't bad! Of course it shouldn't happen, but that it happens this infrequently is a blessing - I swap out my saved pref file once a week on average.

You shouldn't need to reinstall, just save a copy of your prefs file after you've made all your preferered changes, then if (when) this happend again, replace with your back-up...
