With Illustrator 2023 (27.0), you can now export 3D objects to GLTF and USD file formats. Illustrator also supports exporting 3D objects as OBJ files along with colors.

Note: 3D features can be resource intensive and may slow your application. We recommend checking out these best practices to optimize CPU usage when working with 3D in Illustrator.

Highlights:

  • Exported 3D objects and 3D objects with materials and graphics can be opened and edited in 3D applications like Adobe Substance 3D Stager and other third-party apps.
  • When you export multiple objects, you can view each object as an independent modifiable object.
  • Check out this help article for more details about 3D features in Illustrator.

Here is a tutorial by Anna Lander where she explains how you can export 3D graphics from Ai and import them to other 3D apps to refine them with Materials and graphics.
