Exported files showing in export window, but in fined!

Hi, I've been using Illustrator for many years, but as off yesterday, I seem to be having a very unusual problem.

When I export a file (tried various ones), it's not where it should be (again, tried to export to various locations on my iMac). However, it IS showing in the mini preview in the export window—when selecting the folder to which to export to.

I tried to export as a JPG or PNG, nothing.

Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

Have you installed the latest Illustrator update?

Have you tried re-starting your imac? Which OS?

Do your files have a "." period at the beginning of the name? (that will make the file invisible on a Mac).
