Looking for advice on why my Ps fabric swatch images appear distorted when they are exported to Ai? The images are simple one layer jpg's and appear perfect in Ps.

Can you share a Photoshop file and an Illustrator document with the .psd file embedded?

Thank you Kurt, so much for your response. Attached are the files you requested.
I have been embedding the files in Ai to build a swatch library with fabric swatch collections. In Ps they appear as one layer files so the flatten option is not enabled. I simply "export as jpg" to Ai.

The Ai file was dropped from my last Post. Not sure why.

Are you placing the file into an existing illustrator document or did you open the file directly in illustrator?
what is the Ps resolution, dimensions and color more?
open a new document and place the Ps file, are you getting the same result?

Thank you for your response Mohammad. Appreciate your help with this.
Here is my current flow:
* open jpg. doc. in Ps to crop image (Ps resolution is 72 pixels/inch), (W - 360 pixels, H- 304 pixels), (RGB color)
* “save as” edited jpg. image
* open new art board in Ai and “place” jpg. image
* embed image
(note: the image appears normal at this point, until I move it to the “swatches” panel)
* move to “swatches” panel
(note: when I place the image it is now distorted)
* save swatch library as Ai
* save to “user defined” swatches library
My intention is to "place" the pattern swatches into various size rectangles, squares etc. (quilt designs), the distortion is really noticeable on some rectangles that are for ex. 5" x 20" etc. , as you can see on the attached images.
Thank you so much for any suggestions you might have.

Hi Monica, Thank you for your response.
The images appear broken up instead of a continuous flow of the pattern. It is most clearly seen in the 4th print from the bottom on the image you posted, where a broken line appears 1/3 from the top. Some images have the broken line vertically and others have them horizontally. Attached is an original as well as the same image after it is moved into a Swatch library.

Do your images repeat? It does not look like so.
Illustrator will not create that repeat automatically.

Are you saying that the image needs to be pieced together to create a larger pattern size before I import it into Ai? What is so strange is that the image will appear distorted if it is clicked from a swatch library into a 3" x 3" square, or a 5" x 20" rectangle. Size does not seem to matter. The distortion seems to occur when I initially move the Ai embedded image into a Swatch library.

Can you please define what you mean by distortion?
And yes, of course you have to design it in a way that it can be tiled. Illustrator can create repeats, but only with vector art. https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/create-edit-patterns.html

what I mean by distortion is;
the pattern is broken up as if it is tiled instead of one continuous design. These are jpg. fabric swatches provided by the fabric manufacturer. Each swatch shows one repeat of the pattern. But my Ai swatch library breaks up that pattern into separate elements so that the pattern (design) is split so you can see where the pattern appears to be tiled
