Hello there everybody.
I use the 3D filters / effects mapping of art via symbols ALL the time. Now on an iMac with High Sierra and the latest Ilustrator, whenever I use these effects and map art, my 24GB RAM Machine with 2GB GPU grinds to full stop. To be precise, it halts Illustrator. The rest of the machine continues to work find. But on average the time for a render is 6min with any mapped art. That does not make sense and is near impossible to work with.
Toggling GPU performace on or off did not make any discernable difference I m afraid.
My little MacBookPro Retina with just 8GB RAM still does the work loads faster but I cant just work with it anymore for other reasons. Here´s my current specs:
Illustrator 22.0.1.
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)
3,4 GHz Intel Core i7
24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2 GB
External Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster SA850
Wacom Cintiq 13"HD
Still using my old Retina MacBook Pro via Screen- and Fileshare. I did unplug that to see if Harddisk activity between
the two could be a source of slown down, however unlikely. Made no difference.
Anyone got any idea what I could do to improve this? Everything is a fresh install, just about three days old now.
So any help, tips and tricks will be highly appreciated. Deadlines are looming and I m suddenly forced to work at a
snails pace. aaarrrggghh. So thank y´all in advance for your help.
cheers & smiles
Wolf

Is there any change when you unplug the Wacom and the external monitor?
And it's only the 3D effects - everything else works smoothly?

everything else works smoothly. Unplugging the wacom has no effect on the render times. Just tried it again with a different file, same game again. Six minutes for a render. Anyone got any ideas?
I double tripple checked my files. Some had objects outside the artboard but this one should work and I m back at being able to go makeing a latte in between nudges to get it to the right angle. Something that should take 10 minutes now takes me 60

Can you try one thing?
Create a new user account (Admin) on the computer, launch into it and try from there? This won't change anything in the other user folder (and preferences), but you would work like in a fresh install. It needs to be ruled out that there are issues with the preferences.
Can you share a demo file with the issue?
I have alerted staff, perhaps they know of specific High Sierra issues. They will want to see a demo file, I assume.

No difference in performace with different user(admin).
I did a few things to the file we messaged about. I deleted all fluff out of the Symbol and that took about 3 minutes off the rendering time. Deleted guides, invisible layers and rasterized an object that was maybe a teeny bit too complex. Two path stroked with a gradient and a transformation filter to make a little metal screen for a speaker. My bad. Still no way of a smooth or rather immediate preview.
A big improvement by half or two thirds for this file. I ll ask the client if I can share it.

Hi Wolf,
If you have a file you can share with us, please do so we can take a closer look at it to investigate this issue.
Best,
Wren
