I have used the new 3d extrude on some text, Rendered to Vector and expanded, but the text outline is warped - as if it has been traced on low fidelity.
If I try and use the old 3D tool, my computer says it hasn't got enough memory, despite the scratch disks having a huge amount of spare memory.
(Ultimately I need to change the text outline colour on the front of the 3D text without changing the colour of the extrusion).
Any help greatly appreciated - thanks

Hello @Etcho,
Sorry to hear about this experience. Would you mind sharing some more details, like the exact version of the OS/Illustrator, system config (CPU/GPU/Memory), a sample file (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/share-your-files-in-6-simple-steps/td-p/12967...), and a screen recording of the problem (https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator-discussions/screen-record-an-issue-on-windows-amp-macos-f...), as suggested by Monika, so we can investigate this further?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Anubhav

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
The attached screenshot, from left to right, 1st shows the original outlined text, then 2nd selected with the extrude settings showing on the right.
The 3rd image is after rendering (through the dropdown menu in 3D and Materials, using Render to Vector with 'High Quality' selected) and expanding.
4th shows the same as image 3 but I have removed the blue and white image in front of the vector lines and have selected the 'W,h,e' and moved them higher so you can see the distortion.
In 3D classic, I used to be able to expand the extrusion as I've done here, then select just the front face of the lettering so I could change the colour, for example.
Is there something in the process that I have done wrong, or is this a fault in the new system?
PC, Windows 11, Illustrator 27.5 (up to date according to CC), Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz, Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
Please let me know if you need any more information from me.
Many thanks

3D & materials is just not good at rendering to vector. Use the Classic 3D effect. It's better for this.

Thanks but I can't use Classic, it keeps telling me my scratch disks are full despite them having plenty of space.
I now cannot do something that I used to be able to do.

You wrote that it tells you about memory. Memopry is not the scratch disk, but your RAM.
How much RAM do you have installed?

What happens if you use 3D Classic, but do it in 3 seperate parts?
