Flipping text to read R > L instead of L > R with vertical area type tool

Hi Everyone,

When I use the vertical area type tool in Illustrator CC 2019, it automatically places the text so it is read from left to right (see image attached). I would like to flip this so the text is read from right to left but I cannot seem to find a way to do this. Is there a way? Thank you!

I believe the Vertical Area Type Tool is designed that way to accommodate Middle Eastern & South Asian type, so it doesn't appear to have an option to go from left to right. One way to accomplish what you want is to switch from using the Vertical Area Type Tool to the Area Type Tool. Click on the path then double-click on the Area Type Tool to open its settings. Increase the number of columns until the width of your column only contains one letter. It'll work best if you use a monospace font such as Courier in which all the characters are the same width. If you see hyphens, open the Paragraph settings and turn off Hyphenate.

Thank you for your help and it does make sense that it would be for non-English languages. I have a student recreating a texture from a photo using text only and wanted the vertical text to be read right to left but wanted the text vertical to fit the style of her texture. We figured out an alternate way for her to accomplish her goals. Thank you!
