hello all!
just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue with adobe illustrator V29.1.
I type out my copy "Glorify Sans Semi Bold" then change to this font but then after I go back to add or make a correction to the copy and it reverts back to a different font. (serif in the middle that says "what is going on with fonts adobe?" happening on mac & pc both with latest version of ai. super annoying seems to be all files.
Hello everyone,

I'm having a similar issue. I had to update all fonts in a file that weren't on my system. However, any of the text that I need to update in the file reverts to the old font wherever I type. Please see the screenshots for an example. It appears that even after using Find/Replace Font feature to update all fonts it's not retaining that change within the text boxes. My default font is Myriad, so it's not anything to do with that. It seems like an error, rather than an overlooked setting.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

To update on this. The (default) paragraph style can be changed to the correct font, but this can only be applied to individual text boxes, as opposed to being a global change to the file. It still occurs on tect boxes where I've not applied the style. This is not an ideal long-term workaround, but if only a single font is used in each text box then applying a paragraph style is a useful approach until a solution is found.

Are Character or Paragraph styles in the file?
Is that a new file or an old one?

There are no paragraph styles in the file, so I've only been updating the [Normal Paragraph Style] for the respective text box(es). The artwork/file is saved to a new version from an older 2022 version, and the problematic font is Frutiger Roman. I'm updating any instance of this to Frutiger LT Std Roman, as that is what's on our system. However, whenever I need to make any text changes within those text boxes the 'new' text changes back to Frutiger Roman, which is supposed to have been replaced. It's like the text boxes themselves are retaining the font and ignoring the font change within the file.
I'm using Illustrator 29.1 and am using Connect Fonts as a font management system.

Which version, which system, which font and a step by stepdescription would be good.
Also: font management?
Does this happen inall files or just one?
New files, old files?
Any third party plugins?

I only just updated to the new 29.1 version.
I am working on a Macbook with Sequoia 15.0.1
And it basically happens in all Existing files. The last used font seems to be set as the default.
And whenever I change the font of a piece of text and type more text. Doesn't matter if it is before, behind or in the middle of the first piece of text. The first used 'default font' will be used to type.

Same here. Just spent half an hour clearing font caches, restarting, googling, etc. Thanks again, Adobe.
Works as it should in Illustrator 2024.
So far none of the Adobe 2025 updates are usable, soooo many bugs.

Honestly, a bug like this makes Illustrator unusable for me. Stop releasing updates that makes things WORSE.
So glad I'm moving over to Affinity this year.

This bug also affects newly created files in v29.1.
To work around this bug, disable "Enable Missing Glyph Protection."

No matter what font is selected, it always changes when I'm typing to "Filmotype La Crosse". However disabling "Enable Missing Glyph Protection" in the type settings has worked for me. Thank you very much!
