Help needed with dimensions for digital prints please!

Hi everyone

I'm into line drawing and lettering using illustrator and my friend asked me recently if I could design one of those simple quote prints for her so she could frame it in her living room.

My question is, say she wanted to print this at 8x10 - do I need to set the document at 8x10? And what method should I use to save this file for print?

And am I right in thinking anything for print should be saved using the CMYK colour space?

And also, does anybody know if there is a certain type of paper that works best for these prints?!

Thanks in advance - any tips at all are appreciated!

Hi,

last year, a friend asked the same thing from me. I wrote her quotes in exact dimensions in illustrator according to frame dimensions and then printed out textured paper to appear chic and class.

Usually for this kind of work, colour space is not important since it is a only text. I mean that probably design includes 1 or two colour or tint. keep your design as much as simple don't use image and get textured paper from a shop but pay attention the thickness of paper due to printer's capability

First of all contact the print service provider as to which files they accept. Ask them for exact specifications. Those should include everything you're asking.

As for the paper: the providers have different kinds of paper. Ask for a test kit. You might have to pay for that, but it should be worth it, so you can see for yourself.

I don't recommend thick paper. then printed it out. Don't worry about it if your design is good the results will also be good. I recommend you that use good typography for quote.

if your friend will print out the file send her the file as PDF.
