I've looked through the community and can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. I am trying to modify the Save as PDF sample script to allow me to use my own preset and basically just save the PDFs in the source folder without a bunch of the menu prompts. I found something relevant here https://xcorr.net/2010/05/12/batch-export-ai-files-to-pdf/ but whenever I try to edit the preset I get an error. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it as it would help me with a huge project exporting hundreds of AI files. Thanks in advance!

what kind of error are you getting?
preset is just another property of the pdfSaveOptions that when used, there's no need to set any other properties
/*********************************************************
getPDFOptions: Function to set the PDF saving options of the
files using the PDFSaveOptions object.
**********************************************************/
function getPDFOptions()
{
// Create the PDFSaveOptions object to set the PDF options
var pdfSaveOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
// Setting PDFSaveOptions properties. Please see the JavaScript Reference
// for a description of these properties.
// Add more properties here if you like
pdfSaveOpts.pDFPreset = 'preset name';
return pdfSaveOpts;
}

Carlos Thank you! That did the trick, I was putting the preset option in the wrong place per the instructions I read in the blog I referenced.
I wish I had taken a screen shot of the error but this looks like it took care of what I needed. Thank you again!
For anyone else looking for the same here is the script I used:

DESCRIPTION
This sample gets files specified by the user from the
selected folder and batch processes them and saves them
as PDFs.
Edits by Patrick Mineault:
- only .ai files processed
- files saved in same folder as the input files
- export files have name (oldname)_export.pdf
- PDF settings: non-editable / acrobatLayers=false
for maximum compatibility with Preview
