How do I create this image in illustrator?

I am trying to mimic this complex pattern in adobe illustrator. I am having trouble creating and I am not sure what else I can do.

Manually drawing with various kinds of tools in Illustrator (for example the Pen tool, the Pencil tool, the Rotate tool, the Reflect tool and Blends as well, just to mention some).

In case you are not familiar with the tools, you would first have to learn some basics, perhaps assisted by a teacher.
