I've worked mostly in Photoshop and it's been so long since I've used Illustrator I can't remember how to do it. I just want to copy something but I'm stuck. Help.

You did not say what platform you are now so will give you command for mac.

Option drag an elemetn to copy. Cho can also command C.

Not sure how your title relates to what you wrote. If you need further help please add a screenshot to you post as that really helps us see what  you are stuck on.

Christine,

As I (mis)understand it, you can just press the V key to get to the (normal/black arrow) Selection Tool, then you can just Ctrl/Cmd+C to copy the path straight away; to draw again, you may press the P key.

Not sure what you mean by that, but in case the previous responses don't solve your problem, I'll go ahead and guess you're using the Pen tool and are experiencing one of these issues:

  • You've clicked-in your final anchor point and need to exit the Pen tool:
    Press Esc
  • You don't like/want the Pen tool's "rubber band" feature:
See Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display > Enable Rubber Band for: (the very last item in that dialog)

Exactly what does not work?

Which system is it and which version?
