How do I draw a line with an arrowhead? Brush Definition keeps reverting after releasing click

New Here ,
Jan 24, 2018 Jan 24, 2018

Mac 10.13.1 Adobe Illustrator CC 2018

I can draw a line and then add an arrowhead with the Brush Definition dropdown on the ribbon. But if I have an arrowhead selected in Brush Definition, I can click and drag to form the line — arrowhead still selected. Release click — Brush Definition selection reverts to Basic.

I'm working through Lynda tutorials by the way and have completed the tutorial pertaining to lines. Still can't figure this out

Many thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Ben

OK.

So the problem is that when you draw the second line, you don't automatically get an arrow brush?

In that case open the appearance panel and then in the panel menu uncheck "New art has basic appearance"

Hey gang of fellow beginners,

Just another thing I ran into. Watch out for the Clear Appearance option. It makes the stroke and fill empty. So if you're not getting anything, this is why!

You need to draw the line, then click on the arrow head for it to apply. If you then click on the line tool again, you are correct, the basic appearance will apply. But if you use the paint brush tool, then the arrow head will continue to apply as you draw or paint new arrow heads, the appearance will not revert to basic.
